Our Mission
To build a network of scientists and educators that focus on the current challenges facing the fight against Lyme disease and other emerging tick-borne illnesses. The Ticknology team strives to provide reliable, accurate and timely information to persons at risk from tick bites.
Our Story
TICKNOLOGY was founded by scientists that specialize in tick biology and tick-borne disease. We would like to offer our services and expertise to people at risk for chronic Lyme disease. Getting your tick tested for Lyme Disease and other pathogens is a logical first step after a tick bite. Our tick removal and sample submission kits make tick recovery and testing simple and timely.
*Our diagnostic tests are highly sensitive and specific.
*Our tests detect the presence of several tick-borne pathogens.
*Co-infections of more than one pathogen can be detected in a single test.
*Tests are fast (24-72 hr (Priority) or 3-5 day (Standard) turn around).
Our Team
Heather J. Szerlong, Ph.D.
Co-founder & CEO
Dr. Heather Szerlong is a Colorado native and co-founder of Ticknology, LLC. “I’ve had a passion for science since I was a child. Back then, it was so exciting to discover a ‘new’ life-form under a rock or follow the life-cycle of a dragonfly living nearby." That curiosity energized a 20+ year career in scientific research which now includes tick-borne disease and pathogen detection.
Heather earned a B.A. at the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. from the Department of Oncological Sciences at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She then moved back to Colorado where she was awarded an American Heart Association Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Colorado State University.
While researching metabolic disease at the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory at the Children’s Hospital in Denver, she became certified as a Technologist in Molecular Biology from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). She has described much of her research in both peer-reviewed scientific journals and other educational resources including a book chapters and encyclopedia entries. She holds a Research Scientist position in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO and is an expert in the areas of biology, biochemistry, genetics and molecular diagnostics.
Marc Dolan, MSc.
Co-founder & Medical Entomologist
Marc received a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Wyoming before earning a secondary Master of Science degree in Medical Entomology at Colorado State University. He is a vector-borne disease specialist with an emphasis on the biology, ecology, and control of ticks and tick-borne diseases. He has contributed to 70+ peer reviewed publications, book chapters, and 10 US and foreign patents for novel prevention and control methodologies, pesticides, and repellents.
